U-Line’s freezers are 24-inch undercounter units that switch between freezer and refrigerator at the touch of a button, in an indoor HFZ124 and an outdoor OFZ124. They show only the door alert on the display and keep everything else in an error log that a technician reads in service mode.

We work on the HFZ124 indoor and OFZ124 outdoor 24-inch convertible freezers, with stainless or integrated panel doors. The full model on the serial plate inside the cabinet tells us which manual and parts apply.
One unit, two jobs
The convertible models hold −5°F to 5°F as freezers and can be switched to refrigerator use. A unit that suddenly runs warm may simply have been toggled, so we check the mode before anything else.
An error log, not a code screen
U-Line logs sensor problems as E codes in memory and shows only dr, the door alert, during normal use. Reading the log in service mode is the first step of our diagnosis.
Indoor and outdoor versions
The HFZ124 is for indoor use only, and U-Line excludes damage from room temperatures of 40°F or below. The OFZ124 is the model built for outdoor kitchens.
Condenser at the front grille
Air for the condenser comes through the front grille, which U-Line asks owners to keep free of dust and lint. A blocked grille under a counter is a common cause of a warm freezer.
Parts
Thermistors, the door plunger switch and the control are specific to the model and revision. U-Line lists part numbers in each model’s service manual, which helps us order the right part the first time.
Repair or replace
Because the cabinet and panels are built into the counter, fixing a sensor, switch or control on a U-Line is nearly always the sensible choice. A failed compressor on an older unit is where replacement becomes a fair question.
