What SH
actually means.

Holding the two showroom keys for five seconds puts the U-Line into showroom mode, and the display flashes SH for two seconds to confirm it. In this mode the interior light and display work normally, but the compressor and fans do not start, so the freezer slowly warms to room temperature.

What to do when SH shows on the freezer

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from U-Line's own guidance for SH on its freezers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

If you saw SH and the freezer feels warm, move the food to another freezer or a cooler with ice.

02

Repeat the same key combination to leave showroom mode; the display flashes EH to confirm.

03

Check a few hours later that the temperature is dropping, and book a visit if it is not.

Cleared?

The freezer is holding its temperature again and no part had to be replaced. If the same code comes back within a few days, or the packages start to soften again, book it as a fresh problem.

What not to do

SH only confirms a setting and says nothing about the compressor being broken. It is also not Sabbath mode, in which the unit keeps cooling with the light and display dark.

What you may
notice with it.

The freezer problems SH tends to arrive with. Answer these at the freezer before anyone is booked.

All problems

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

A setting the freezer was put into, often by accident or by the store it came from, rather than a part that broke: a showroom or demo mode that lights the display while the compressor stays off, a fast freeze left running for days, a Sabbath setting that silences the alarms, a control lock, a door alarm reminding you the door stood open. Nothing has worn out, and the freezer's own buttons or manual put it back.

Questions
about SH.

Can I clear SH myself?
If you saw SH and the freezer feels warm, move the food to another freezer or a cooler with ice.
How did my U-Line freezer get into showroom mode?
It takes holding two keys together for five seconds, which can happen while cleaning the panel or reaching into the unit. Display units are also often left in this mode.
Will SH stay on the U-Line display the whole time?
No. SH shows for only two seconds when the mode starts, after which the display looks normal, which is why a warm freezer is usually the first sign.
Can showroom mode harm my U-Line freezer?
The unit is not harmed; it just is not cooling. The food is what is at risk.

Still showing SH?

Book with the code or the alarm pattern written exactly as the freezer shows it, the full model number, and whether the food is still frozen hard — when there is a code, that is where the diagnosis starts.
