What E1
actually means.

In the U-Line error log, E1 means thermistor 1 is open. Thermistor 1 is the zone sensor, the one that reads the compartment the control is trying to hold at your setting. U-Line keeps it in the error log, read in service mode; only the door code is shown on the display during normal use.

What to do when E1 shows on the freezer

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from U-Line's own guidance for E1 on its freezers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Put a thermometer between packages to see whether the freezer is really holding temperature.

02

Unplug the freezer, wait about a minute, reconnect it and watch whether cooling returns to normal.

03

Book a visit and mention E1, since the sensor has to be measured with a meter.

Still there?

It usually turns into freezer thermostat and temperature control repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

E1 is not the evaporator sensor, which is E2. It also does not describe a short in the sensor; that is logged as E5.

What you may
notice with it.

Questions
about E1.

Can I clear E1 myself?
Put a thermometer between packages to see whether the freezer is really holding temperature. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why can’t I see E1 on my U-Line display?
U-Line logs thermistor problems in memory and shows only the door alert on screen. A technician reads E1 from the error log in service mode.
What symptoms point to E1 on a U-Line freezer?
Food frozen harder than expected or a freezer that does not hold its setting. U-Line’s service table lists a failed thermistor under frozen product.
Will my U-Line freezer stop cooling because of E1?
It depends on how the sensor failed. Without a working zone sensor the control cannot hold your setting reliably, so check the food until the sensor is replaced.

Back to your everyday

Still showing E1?

Book with the code or the alarm pattern written exactly as the freezer shows it, the full model number, and whether the food is still frozen hard — when there is a code, that is where the diagnosis starts.
