What Highland Park does

A 100-foot bluff runs along its 6 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, cut by deep wooded ravines that reach up to a mile inland.

German immigrants founded a lakeside town there in 1847, and Port Clinton, where a lighthouse went up in 1854, followed three years later.
