Sub-Zero EC07: the freezer cabinet sensor is sending bad readings

EC07 (or plain 07 on IC-27 columns and UC undercounter models) points at the freezer cabinet thermistor, the small sensor the control uses to decide when the compressor should run.

What EC07
actually means.

EC07 (or plain 07 on IC-27 columns and UC undercounter models) points at the freezer cabinet thermistor, the small sensor the control uses to decide when the compressor should run. Sub-Zero lists three triggers: an open circuit, a short lasting 10 seconds or more, or readings that keep jumping around.

What to do when EC07 shows on the freezer

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Sub-Zero's own guidance for EC07 on its freezers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Check the temperature on the display against a thermometer placed between frozen packages; if food is still hard, you have time.

02

On IC-27 and UC models, switch the home circuit breaker off for 30 seconds and back on, then watch whether 07 comes back.

03

Keep the door shut and write down EC07 together with the temperatures shown, then book a visit if the code stays.

Still there?

It usually turns into freezer thermostat and temperature control repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

EC07 does not say the freezer has warmed up; the cabinet may still be at 0°F. A warm freezer with a long-running compressor shows EC40 instead.

Sub-Zero answer: 600 or 700 Series EC07 or EC08 Sub-Zero answer: IC-27 integrated columns error code 07 Sub-Zero answer: Undercounter (UC) error code 07

Every code on this site is taken from the manufacturer's documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. 600 and 700 Series (shown as EC07 or EC 07), IC-27 integrated columns and UC undercounter models (shown as 07). Designer and Classic models with three-part codes report sensors differently.

Questions
about EC07.

Can I clear EC07 myself?
Check the temperature on the display against a thermometer placed between frozen packages; if food is still hard, you have time. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Will my Sub-Zero keep freezing while EC07 is showing?
Often it keeps running, but the control is working from a reading it no longer trusts, so the temperature can drift either way. Watch a thermometer in the freezer and move food to a cooler if it starts to soften.
Is 07 on an IC-27 column the same code as EC07 on a 700 Series?
Yes, both name the freezer cabinet thermistor. The IC-27 and UC displays simply print the number without the EC letters.
Can I clear EC07 myself?
Sub-Zero offers no owner fix for EC07 on the 600 and 700 Series. On IC-27 columns it suggests a 30-second breaker reset; if 07 returns, the sensor or its wiring needs a technician.

Still showing EC07?

Book with the code or the alarm pattern written exactly as the freezer shows it, the full model number, and whether the food is still frozen hard — when there is a code, that is where the diagnosis starts.
