Citing SCE's 2024 System Reliability Report, Malibu says it had outages three times as often as other SCE cities and that they lasted 30 times longer.
Where other cities typically had power back within three hours, the city says, Malibu waited more than three days.
Once a shutoff ends, SCE crews must inspect lines and equipment before restoring power, which Malibu says can take 24 to 72 hours.
Malibu's shutoff guidance says a full freezer holds its temperature for about 48 hours if it stays closed, and it tells residents to set garage doors to manual before the power goes.
