What E5
actually means.

E5 records a short on thermistor 1, the zone sensor for the freezer compartment. A shorted sensor usually reads as a temperature the cabinet is not really at, so cooling can run too long or too little. U-Line keeps it in the error log, read in service mode; only the door code is shown on the display during normal use.

What to do when E5 shows on the freezer

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from U-Line's own guidance for E5 on its freezers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Compare the display reading with a thermometer placed in the freezer for an hour.

02

If food is getting too hard or too soft, move the most perishable items to another freezer.

03

Book a visit and mention E5, since the sensor and its wiring need testing.

Still there?

It usually turns into freezer thermostat and temperature control repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

E5 is not the open-circuit version of the same sensor; that is E1. It also has nothing to do with the door, which shows as dr on the display.

What you may
notice with it.

The freezer problems E5 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the freezer before anyone is booked.

Questions
about E5.

Can I clear E5 myself?
Compare the display reading with a thermometer placed in the freezer for an hour. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
What is the difference between E1 and E5 on a U-Line?
Both concern the compartment sensor. E1 means its circuit is open, and E5 means it is shorted.
Could a pinched wire cause E5 on my U-Line freezer?
Yes. A short can come from the sensor itself or from damaged wiring along its path, which is why the technician checks both.
Does the outdoor U-Line OFZ124 use the same E5 code?
Yes. Its service manual lists the same error log, including E5 for thermistor 1 shorted.

Still showing E5?

Book with the code or the alarm pattern written exactly as the freezer shows it, the full model number, and whether the food is still frozen hard — when there is a code, that is where the diagnosis starts.
