What is particular
to Gaggenau.

We see Vario 400 series columns such as RF 411, RF 461, RF 463 (with a door dispenser on some versions) and RF 471, and the Vario cooling Expressive series RVF freezers in 18 to 36 inch widths. The model decides which control and message list apply.

The display names the supply problem

Older Vario columns show LOWPOWER or HIGHVOLT when the house voltage is outside their limits, and clear the message when it recovers. That lets us separate a supply issue from a column problem before opening anything.

It remembers the warmest temperature

During a temperature alarm the column keeps the peak it reached, and one press of the alarm button brings that figure up for a few seconds. That number helps owners decide about the food and helps us judge how long the column struggled.

NoFrost, never manual defrost

Gaggenau's NoFrost system keeps the freezer free of ice, and the instructions say defrosting is not required. Frost on the walls of a Vario column therefore points to a door seal or defrost problem, not to overdue maintenance.

Quiet modes that hide warnings

Rest mode turns off the ice maker, sounds, light and messages and locks the buttons, while holiday mode dims and saves energy. A silent, dark column is often in one of these modes.

Parts

Gaggenau parts come through BSH and are ordered by the model and production numbers on the rating plate. Older 400 series control parts may take time to source.

Repair or replace

A Vario column is custom fitted and often part of a matched set, so repair is the normal choice for fans, sensors, controls and door hardware. We raise replacement only when a sealed-system repair would cost more than the column's remaining life justifies.

The mains voltage has dropped below the column's limit. It clears when the voltage recovers; if it lasts, the utility or an electrician should check the supply.
Why is my Gaggenau freezer column dark and silent?
Rest mode switches off the light, sounds, messages and ice maker and locks the buttons. Press the Holiday button to leave it.
Does a Gaggenau freezer column need defrosting?
No. The NoFrost system keeps the compartment free of ice, so visible frost is a reason to have the door seal and defrost system checked.
