LG sells two standalone freezers in the US: the LROFC1104V, an 11.4 cu. ft. counter-depth upright column with No Frost cooling, and the LROFC0605V, a 5.8 cu. ft. single-door model with direct cooling and a knob dial. Neither prints error codes, so diagnosis leans on LG's Smart Diagnosis tones, the room temperature and a meter.

What is particular
to LG.

We see the LROFC1104V counter-depth column, sometimes installed next to an LG single-door refrigerator, and the compact LROFC0605V. The column's fan and defrost system are where most service time goes; the compact model is mostly thermostat, door seal and compressor work.

Two cabinets built very differently

The LROFC1104V moves air with a fan and defrosts itself, while the LROFC0605V is a direct-cooling freezer whose shelves are bent evaporator tubing. Frost on those shelves is part of how the small one works; heavy frost in the column model is a sign of trouble.

No lower than 55°F around it

LG's manual for the column asks for a room between 55 and 110°F. In a cold garage or basement it can lose its grip on temperature with nothing wrong inside, so we measure the room before the cabinet.

Diagnosis by sound

With the door open, holding the Freezer button for three seconds makes the column play tones that the LG ThinQ app turns into a diagnosis. It is a useful first read when the display shows nothing unusual.

Modes that lock the panel

Vacation mode locks the other buttons until it is turned off, and Sabbath mode silences the alarms and ends on its own after 96 hours. A panel that 'will not respond' is often just in one of the two.

Parts

Common parts for the LROFC1104V, such as fans, sensors and door gaskets, are generally available. Parts for the compact direct-cooling model are fewer and simpler, and a sealed-system part on either can take longer to arrive.

Repair or replace

The counter-depth column is usually worth repairing when a fan, sensor or defrost part has gone. On the small direct-cooling freezer, a compressor or leak repair often costs more than the cabinet is worth, and replacement is the sensible call.

My LG upright freezer column has no error code. How is a problem found?
LG builds Smart Diagnosis into the LROFC1104V instead of a code list. Hold your phone to the speaker on the right door hinge, press Freezer for three seconds, and the LG ThinQ app reads the tones; we then confirm the result with a meter on site.
Why won't the buttons on my LG freezer change the temperature?
Vacation mode locks every other button while it is on, and Sabbath mode keeps the panel quiet for up to 96 hours. Turn Vacation off, or hold Vacation and Express Freeze for three seconds to end Sabbath.
Is frost normal in the small LG single-door freezer?
Some frost is expected, because the LROFC0605V cools directly through its evaporator shelves rather than with a fan. A thick layer that stops the door closing or shrinks the space should be melted off, and fast regrowth after that points to the door seal.
