What TEY
actually means.

TEY is the G5 code for extra low evaporator temperature, a step beyond TEL. Perlick’s first step is a manual defrost, with service if the alarm comes back within a week.

What to do when TEY shows on the freezer

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Perlick's own guidance for TEY on its freezers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Run a manual defrost from the display.

02

After it finishes, check that the door and drawers seal and the vents are clear.

03

Book a visit if TEY returns within a week.

It usually turns into freezer defrost system repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

TEY is not the cabinet being too cold; that is T1L. It also does not mean the probe has failed, which would show as PEF.

What you may
notice with it.

The freezer problems TEY tends to arrive with. Answer these at the freezer before anyone is booked.

Questions
about TEY.

Can I clear TEY myself?
Run a manual defrost from the display. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Will a manual defrost always clear Perlick TEY?
It clears ice that has built on the coil. If something keeps making the coil too cold, such as a door leak or an airflow or sensing problem, TEY comes back.
Is it safe to run a defrost with food in the Perlick drawers?
Yes, the manual defrost is designed to run with the unit in use. Keep the drawers closed while it runs.
Why did TEY appear after the drawer was left open?
Moist air from the room freezes onto the coil, and a heavily iced coil reads cold. A defrost and a good seal usually fix it.

Still showing TEY?

Book with the code or the alarm pattern written exactly as the freezer shows it, the full model number, and whether the food is still frozen hard — when there is a code, that is where the diagnosis starts.
