What Ed
actually means.

Ed on the ML24FA means the defrost temperature sensor has failed. Marvel warns the unit will not defrost properly, can build up large amounts of frost, and may cause water damage to the unit and floor, so it asks you to unplug it right away.

What to do when Ed shows on the freezer

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Marvel's own guidance for Ed on its freezers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Unplug the power cord, as Marvel instructs, and move the food to another freezer or a cooler with ice.

02

Put towels in front of and under the unit in case built-up frost melts.

03

Book a visit to have the defrost sensor replaced before plugging it back in.

Still there?

It usually turns into freezer defrost system repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

Ed is not the compartment sensor, which is EL. It is also not a clogged drain, although both can leave water on the floor.

Questions
about Ed.

Can I clear Ed myself?
Unplug the power cord, as Marvel instructs, and move the food to another freezer or a cooler with ice. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does Marvel want the freezer unplugged for Ed?
Frost that keeps growing without defrost can melt all at once and overflow. Marvel names water damage to the unit and the floor as the risk.
Can I defrost my Marvel by hand and keep using it with Ed?
Marvel’s instruction is to unplug and have the sensor replaced, not to keep running it. A manual defrost only buys time until frost builds again.
What happens to the food when I unplug for Marvel Ed?
A closed, full freezer holds food frozen for a while, but move it to another freezer or a cooler with ice if the repair will take more than a day.

Still showing Ed?

Book with the code or the alarm pattern written exactly as the freezer shows it, the full model number, and whether the food is still frozen hard — when there is a code, that is where the diagnosis starts.
