What Sb
actually means.

On Frigidaire's 19 cu. ft. single-door freezer with an ice maker, Sb on the control display means Sabbath mode is on. The lights and the display stop responding, the ice maker stops, and only the HIGH TEMP alert stays active. The mode survives a power failure and ends only when the same two buttons are held again.

What to do when Sb shows on the freezer

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Frigidaire's own guidance for Sb on its freezers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Hold the minus button and TEMP F/C for five seconds to exit Sabbath mode.

02

Check that the ice maker is back on afterwards if you want ice.

03

If Sb returns on its own or the buttons still do nothing, book a visit to check the control.

Cleared?

The freezer is holding its temperature again and no part had to be replaced. If the same code comes back within a few days, or the packages start to soften again, book it as a fresh problem.

What not to do

Sb does not mean the freezer has stopped cooling; it keeps freezing in Sabbath mode. A dark panel without Sb on it is a different matter and may be a power or control problem.

What you may
notice with it.

The freezer problems Sb tends to arrive with. Answer these at the freezer before anyone is booked.

All problems

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

A setting the freezer was put into, often by accident or by the store it came from, rather than a part that broke: a showroom or demo mode that lights the display while the compressor stays off, a fast freeze left running for days, a Sabbath setting that silences the alarms, a control lock, a door alarm reminding you the door stood open. Nothing has worn out, and the freezer's own buttons or manual put it back.

Questions
about Sb.

Can I clear Sb myself?
Hold the minus button and TEMP F/C for five seconds to exit Sabbath mode.
Why did Sb stay on my Frigidaire freezer after the power went out?
Frigidaire designs Sabbath mode to survive a power failure, so it has to be turned off with the buttons. Hold minus and TEMP F/C for five seconds.
My Frigidaire single-door freezer stopped making ice and shows Sb. Are they connected?
Yes. Ice making pauses for as long as Sabbath mode is on, and it resumes once you exit the mode with the ice maker switched on.
Will the Frigidaire freezer still warn me in Sabbath mode if it warms up?
Yes. The HIGH TEMP alert stays active for food safety and sounds if the cabinet is out of its safe range for 20 minutes.

Back to your everyday

Still showing Sb?

Book with the code or the alarm pattern written exactly as the freezer shows it, the full model number, and whether the food is still frozen hard — when there is a code, that is where the diagnosis starts.
