What Suffolk County does
to a freezer.

Where freezers sit in Suffolk County: seasonal houses, on the water, patios and outdoor kitchens.

All of New York Metro

Seasonal houses

A freezer that ran unwatched for a season can look fine on arrival and still have thawed and frozen again in between, and packages fused into one block, ice crystals on the lid or a drip line down the front are the clues to believe over the display.

On the water

A garage freezer caught by a storm surge is written off more often than any other kind of flooded freezer, because brine soaks the foam insulation in its walls and the compressor compartment at its base; the food that sat in the water goes in the trash, and the cabinet is judged by a technician before anyone plugs it in.

Patios and outdoor kitchens

Outdoor freezer drawers collect pollen, leaves and grill smoke on their front grille, and a clogged grille leaves the compressor running hot, so clearing it is the first step on any outdoor visit.
