Can that be fixed? Yes. The lid is held up by counterbalance springs inside its hinges, and they weaken over years of use. New hinges are a small part fitted from the back of the cabinet, and they also help the lid settle flat on its gasket. ### The door on my upright freezer drops when I open it. What causes that? A worn hinge pin or bushing, a loose hinge screw, or a bent bracket from the door being leaned on.
