--- title: "Viking SAB: Sabbath mode has turned off lights and alarms" description: "What SAB means on Viking SAB: Sabbath mode has turned off lights and alarmss, what to check before booking, and when it is not a failure at all." url: "https://freezerrepair.center/error-codes/viking-sab/" --- # Viking SAB: Sabbath mode has turned off lights and alarms In Viking Sabbath mode the interior lights, the display (apart from the SAB indicator, temperature and compartment indicator) and the alarms are disabled. ## What SAB actually means. In Viking Sabbath mode the interior lights, the display (apart from the SAB indicator, temperature and compartment indicator) and the alarms are disabled. If power is lost, the freezer comes back in Sabbath mode. Viking freezer display · also shown as Sabbath mode What to do when SAB shows on the freezer ### Kind of code Mode, not a failure A setting the freezer was put into, often by accident or by the store it came from, rather than a part that broke: a showroom or demo mode that lights the display while the compressor stays off, a fast freeze left running for days, a Sabbath setting that silences the alarms, a control lock, a door alarm reminding you the door stood open. Nothing has worn out, and the freezer's own buttons or manual put it back. ### Usually leads to No repair If the light is out and the alarms are silent, look for SAB before assuming a failure. ### Shows up as Freezer Light Out A freezer light not working leaves the cabinet dark when the door or lid opens, while the freezer itself may still hum and hold its cold. ### Make Viking Viking freezers repaired at home, with the frost, the fans and the door seal checked on the first visit. ### Source Viking Use & Care Manual, 5 Series built-in all refrigerators and all freezers (FDFB5303, VCFB5303 and siblings) Viking 5 Series and Professional built-in all freezers (FDFB5303, FDFB5363, VCFB5303, VCFB5363 and custom panel versions). Viking 7 Series integrated all freezer columns (VFI7180, VFI7240, FFI and MVFI versions). ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Viking's own guidance for SAB on its freezers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 If the light is out and the alarms are silent, look for SAB before assuming a failure. 02 Check the food yourself after any power outage, since the alarms will not warn you in this mode. 03 On 5 Series models with an ice maker, raise the bale arm before Sabbath mode and lower it afterward, as Viking instructs. ### Cleared? The freezer is holding its temperature again and no part had to be replaced. If the same code comes back within a few days, or the packages start to soften again, book it as a fresh problem. ### What not to do SAB is not a burned-out light or a failed control. It is also not showroom mode, which stops cooling. ## What you may notice with it. The freezer problems SAB tends to arrive with. Answer these at the freezer before anyone is booked.
