A shorted sensor usually reads as a temperature the cabinet is not really at, so cooling can run too long or too little. U-Line freezer display What to do when E5 shows on the freezer ### Kind of code Temperature sensors The control lost its reading of how cold the cabinet, the coil or the air around the freezer is, because a thermistor reports nonsense or its wire came loose. Without that number the control either runs the compressor without stopping or lets the cabinet drift warm. Compare the display reading with a thermometer placed in the freezer for an hour. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### What is the difference between E1 and E5 on a U-Line? Both concern the compartment sensor. E1 means its circuit is open, and E5 means it is shorted. ### Could a pinched wire cause E5 on my U-Line freezer? Yes. A short can come from the sensor itself or from damaged wiring along its path, which is why the technician checks both. ### Does the outdoor U-Line OFZ124 use the same E5 code? Yes.
