E2 is logged when thermistor 2, the evaporator sensor, reads open. The control uses this sensor on the cooling coil to manage defrost, so trouble here often shows up as frost building on the rear wall. U-Line freezer display What to do when E2 shows on the freezer ### Kind of code Temperature sensors The control lost its reading of how cold the cabinet, the coil or the air around the freezer is, because a thermistor reports nonsense or its wire came loose. Without that number the control either runs the compressor without stopping or lets the cabinet drift warm. Look for frost more than a quarter inch thick on the rear wall; U-Line says that much calls for a manual defrost. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### How does E2 cause frost in a U-Line freezer? The evaporator sensor tells the control when the coil is clear. Without it, defrost may not end correctly, and frost can build up on the coil and the rear wall. ### Does a U-Line convertible freezer normally need manual defrosting? No. U-Line says that under normal conditions it does not, and that light frost on the rear wall melts during off cycles. A thick coat is a sign something is wrong. ### Can I keep using the U-Line with E2 logged?
