On Monogram built-in column freezers, holding the plus and minus pads together until COOLING OFF appears stops the cooling system without cutting power. The lights and display keep working, so the column looks alive while it warms up. Monogram freezer display · also shown as COOLING ON What to do when COOLING OFF shows on the freezer ### Kind of code Mode, not a failure A setting the freezer was put into, often by accident or by the store it came from, rather than a part that broke: a showroom or demo mode that lights the display while the compressor stays off, a fast freeze left running for days, a Sabbath setting that silences the alarms, a control lock, a door alarm reminding you the door stood open. Nothing has worn out, and the freezer's own buttons or manual put it back. ### Usually leads to No repair Press either the plus or the minus pad; the display shows COOLING ON. ### Shows up as Standalone Freezer Not Freezing A standalone freezer not freezing shows it on a thermometer long before the food goes soft: packages give under your thumb, a tub of stock is slush at the center, and the cabinet air feels cool rather than biting. ### Make Monogram Monogram freezers repaired on site, from the controls to the door that closes over the food. ### Source Monogram owner's manual 49-1000529, built-in column freezers Monogram ZIF181, ZIF241, ZIF301 and ZIF361 built-in column freezers (owner's manual 49-1000529). Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Press either the plus or the minus pad; the display shows COOLING ON. 02 Watch for the preset 0°F to appear after about 3 seconds. 03 Allow up to 24 hours for the column to reach temperature, and move food to another freezer if it has softened. 04 If COOLING OFF comes back without anyone touching the panel, book a visit. ### Cleared? The freezer is holding its temperature again and no part had to be replaced. If the same code comes back within a few days, or the packages start to soften again, book it as a fresh problem. ### What not to do COOLING OFF does not mean the compressor or the control has failed. Someone, or a stuck pad, has told the column to stop cooling. ## What you may notice with it. The freezer problems COOLING OFF tends to arrive with. Press either the plus or the minus pad; the display shows COOLING ON. ### Why did my Monogram freezer column switch to COOLING OFF? Both the plus and minus pads were held down together, often while wiping the panel. Press either pad once to turn cooling back on. ### Is it safe to work on my Monogram column freezer when it shows COOLING OFF? No. COOLING OFF stops the cooling but leaves power on, so disconnect power before any cleaning inside the machine area. ### How long does my Monogram column freezer take to recover after COOLING OFF? Monogram allows 24 hours to reach the preset temperature. Keep the door closed so it gets there faster. --- **[Read on the site: Monogram column freezer COOLING OFF: cooling has been switched off at the panel](https://freezerrepair.center/error-codes/monogram-cooling-off/)** **[Book a visit with FreezerRepair.center](https://freezerrepair.center/schedule/)**
