On the ML24FA, EL means the single zone temperature sensor has failed. The control watches the sensor constantly and shows EL on an open or shorted circuit; Marvel warns this can lead to wrong storage temperatures and spoiled food. Marvel freezer display What to do when EL shows on the freezer ### Kind of code Temperature sensors The control lost its reading of how cold the cabinet, the coil or the air around the freezer is, because a thermistor reports nonsense or its wire came loose. Without that number the control either runs the compressor without stopping or lets the cabinet drift warm. Move perishable food to another freezer or a cooler with ice, as Marvel advises. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Why does Marvel say to remove food when EL shows? Without a working sensor the control cannot tell how cold the compartment is, so it may let food warm or freeze it too hard. Moving food protects it until the sensor is replaced. ### Is EL on a Marvel ML24FA an electrical short in the house? No. It refers to the open or shorted circuit of the small temperature sensor inside the freezer, not your home wiring. ### Will a reset clear EL on my Marvel? It may disappear briefly, but a failed sensor brings it back.
