Fisher & Paykel puts F42 in the heater group together with F2 and F43 to F47. The article names no single heater for it, so on a frost-free integrated column the visit starts with the defrost circuit and then any other heater the control reports on. Fisher & Paykel freezer display What to do when F42 shows on the freezer ### Kind of code Defrost system A frost-free freezer warms its coil for a few minutes several times a day to melt the frost, and the control noticed that this did not happen or took too long. A heater that burned open, a defrost thermostat or a timer that stuck, or a drain frozen shut lets frost wrap the coil until air cannot pass. Chest freezers without automatic defrost do not show these codes; their frost comes off by hand. ### Usually leads to Freezer defrost system repair Repairing the heater, the defrost thermostat or sensor and the timer or board that keep ice off the hidden coil in a frost-free upright, column or undercounter freezer. ### Shows up as Heavy Frost Buildup in the Freezer Frost buildup in the freezer: snow on packages, a white coat over the rear panel or the vents, frost around the door edge, and baskets that start to stick, on a model that is supposed to defrost itself. ### Make Fisher & Paykel Fisher and Paykel freezers repaired with the food still inside kept as cold as possible. ### Source Fisher & Paykel US help article: F code displaying on column freezer Fisher & Paykel integrated column freezers (RS1884F, RS2484F, RS3084F). Each step comes from Fisher & Paykel's own guidance for F42 on its freezers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Look for frost building on the rear panel or water frozen in the bottom of the compartment. 02 Keep the door closed and check the food each day until the visit. 03 Book a visit and quote F42 so the heater circuit can be tested with the right parts on hand. ### Still there? Look for frost building on the rear panel or water frozen in the bottom of the compartment. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Is F42 more serious than F2 on a Fisher & Paykel freezer? Both are heater codes, and Fisher & Paykel treats them the same way: book a service technician. The exact number tells the technician which heater circuit to test first. ### What should I tell the technician about F42? The exact number, when it first appeared and whether you have seen frost on the rear panel or ice in the bottom of the compartment. Those details point the heater test in the right direction. ### Should I switch the column off with F42? Not unless the food has already been moved. A running column keeps food frozen longer, even with a heater problem. --- **[Read on the site: Fisher & Paykel F42 on a column freezer: heater group code](https://freezerrepair.center/error-codes/fisher-and-paykel-f42/)** **[Book a visit with FreezerRepair.center](https://freezerrepair.center/schedule/)**
